Recently, I was sent to a home in Millstone Township, NJ, for a termite treatment. Upon arrival, the homeowner should me damage to the floor molding caused by these wood-consuming insects. The homeowner had also observed a huge swarm of winged termites. Subterranean termites swarm in the spring and summer months, typically after a rainfall during warm weather. Swarming is when reproductive termites take flight out of the nest to reproduce and start new colonies. It is an alarming site to see, especially when it happens inside a home. Swarming is the most visible sign that your property has termites. Since termites form underground nests, effective termite treatment requires direct access to the soil. Here, I needed to drill and treat under the foundation slab and I drilled angled holes under the foundation so that I could rod product into the soil. Homes built on slab foundations are especially prone to termites because they have expansion joints, cracks, and wooden structural members that are much closer to the soil than crawl space or basement foundations. Finally, I dug a small trench to inject more product into the soil. This treatment will soon eradicate the termites colonies that had formed underneath the home.
